Minimal Posting

Not that I have been posting a lot here anyhow...

But, my laptop motherboard quit a couple of days ago, and I am trying to work with DELL to get it up and running as soon as possible. Which, in DELL-speak, coupled with the mail system, could be several months...

I'll post what I can, when I can...

God Bless.

Sad Tidings

We just received news that one of our comrades from 5th Tank died in Iraq. He apparently was electrocuted while performing maintenance on a vehicle. He will be sorely missed.

Please pray for his family and friends that they may find comfort in this time of sorrow.

Long absence

Wow...sorry about the long delay...

A little over a week ago, I was sitting in my room watching a movie and sucking on a piece of Laffy Taffy, when suddenly I felt something hard in the Laffy Taffy. I pulled it out and examined it. It was silver and metallic...and I noticed that something was missing. My crown!!

It took a couple of days, but I managed to catch a flight out to the nearest base with a dentist. Kandahar Air Field (KAF), also known as Strandahar because of the difficulties faced with catching a flight back out.

Well, I arrived too late to see the dentist the first day. When I finally got over to the dentist's office, I was told that the dentist had just left on a mission and would not be back for a week.

I was...unhappy...very unhappy.

KAF boast a PX, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and Subway...and as nice as all these things are...they are merely ways to separate a GI from his money, and the prospect of an extended stay at Strandahar did not fill me with any exuberence. Not to mention the fact that our logistics cell (the people that sort our mail from that of other bases, as well as order supplies for us) have a nasty tendency to put all the strays to work...another unpalatable prospect.

I went back to the dental assistant that day to see what I could do, and was told (as I was not on my first trip up there that day) that I could be fitted with a temporary crown to tide me over until I returned to KAF on my way home for leave.

So, that was done...and still, I had to wait another 3 days to catch a flight back to Farah...

Now...finally back, and working my rear off...wondering why I did not stay in quiet restful Kandahar....

Not really...it was quiet there, but I really would rather be with my crew here at the Farah Medium Security Institute for Wayward Boys.

Ah...additional note, a couple of days ago we experienced a most unusual meteorological phenomena....water fell from the sky...

We were awed and amazed. And about 20 min later, you could not tell anything had happened at all...

Heh...life here is never dull.
