Reflections

Lately I have been having....not flashbacks, precisely...but memories of A'stan...Things like seeing a cigarette butt flicked from a car to bounce on the road in a shower of sparks will bring back that same image as seen through night vision goggles while on patrol.

Part of me misses that life. It was so simple....everyday was predictable...very little of the messiness of life intruded on us there...If things broke, we did not have to worry avout fixing them, just report it and wait.

The simplicity, the cameraderie...and to a certain extent, the adventure...it all can be appealing...

But then...

When the Pookster, who is now three wanders over to me, and says, "Daddy, I love you too" for no reason, or any of the others just up and hug me...

Its good to be home.
